Portuguese tiles have told stories on the walls of our cities for centuries. Once a thriving industry, they turned facades into canvases of color and culture. But with time, fashions changed, demand declined, and most tile factories closed. Today, many tiles are stolen or removed during building renovations, leaving their unique patterns at risk of disappearing forever.

At Gazete Azulejos, we’re determined to protect this legacy.

We document: In Porto, we’re building a photographic catalogue of facade tiles, a way to save these patterns before they’re lost.

We recreate: In our studio, we hand-paint faithful replicas using traditional techniques, keeping these designs alive.

We teach: Through workshops, we share the craft and history of Portuguese tiles, passing it on to new generations.
