Tile painting workshop in Porto
During this tile painting workshop you will have the chance to discover this wonderful art and paint facade tiles of Porto, as it was made 170 years ago.
The buildings covered with tiles in Portugal are one of the most beautiful and unique heritages of the world.
In Porto, many houses are decorated with these small ceramic pieces. They were painted by hand one by one in the now disappeared tile factories of the region.
During our tile painting workshop you will learn about this important Portuguese heritage and paint Porto tiles yourself using traditional techniques.
Joining our tile painting workshop, you’ll take home the best memory of your trip to Portugal
This tile painting workshop is made to support our project OS AZULEJOS DO PORTO, a non-profit project to catalogue all the Porto facade tiles.
Don’t worry, no artistic skills are required 🙂

Perfect for those who are interested in painting a traditional Porto tile, this workshop is recommended for groups of friends or families too. All minors must participate with at least one adult.
The minimum age for participation is 10 years old.
Details
During the workshop, we will begin with a short introduction on the history of tiles in Portugal and Porto, where we will also address any questions or concerns you may have. Additionally, we will explain who we are and our mission in preserving Porto’s tile heritage.
We will then proceed to teach you the two traditional techniques used to paint tiles in the past.
Each participant will have the opportunity to paint 2 tiles, choosing from a variety of pre-designed Porto tile replicas.
The workshop will be conducted in English.
Firing and picking up the tiles
Following the painting session, the tiles will need to be fired in a ceramic oven (kiln) and will be ready for collection the day after the workshop between 4pm and 5pm.
If you are unable to collect your tiles on the day after the workshop, you may come on any other day. Please refer to our Google Maps page for opening hours.
We will store the tiles painted in the workshop for a maximum of 3 months. If they are not collected during this period, they will become ‘orphans’ and sold at a symbolic price to finance ‘Os Azulejos do Porto‘

The cost of the workshop is 35€ per person, which includes 2 tiles ready to be painted, tools, materials and firing services.
